Following the conclusion of the call for evidence to the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee's inquiry into media literacy in the UK - and The Media Education Association's (MEA) submission of oral evidence in May - we are pleased to now share the written evidence submitted by The MEA submitted as part of the inquiry.
The inquiry aims to define what ‘good’ media literacy should look like today and to explore the barriers preventing that vision from being realised. It also considers how government, industry, and regulators can play a more effective role in supporting media literacy across society.
The Committee’s findings will help shape future strategy and highlight the key actions needed to improve media literacy skills at every level.
As the professional association for media educators, the MEA is proud to contribute to this vital national conversation. We continue to advocate for the essential role of education - and educators - in building a media-literate society.
You can read all the written submissions to the inquiry on the link below - it is interesting reading - and we encourage all MEA members to explore the evidence and engage with this important debate. We will update members when the inquiry report has been published.
