Future of Film and Media Studies

Pete Fraser spoke at the OCR A level media teachers’ conference on 21 March about what is known in relation to the future of Film and Media Studies at GCSE and A level. His presentation can be downloaded here.

Since this event, Pete has arranged a meeting with the Chair and Vice-Chair of Meccsa, the HE subject association, to co-ordinate the campaign to ensure the retention of the subjects, which at the moment is not secured. Once the DFE have released final details on subjects to be developed for 2016, we expect to hear when consultations might take place for any remaining subjects, among which are media and film. the role of the MEA as a subject association and the alliances forged with those in HE and industry at this stage will be crucial. We will keep you informed of developments and will call upon colleagues to assist with various information and actions soon via a newsletter, probably in early May.
